Client: PYP (long-term partner)
Location: Youth Shelter Facility
Project Type: Flooring Replacement / Interior Renovation

Background
PYP, a long-term partner organization, operates a youth shelter that experiences heavy daily use from residents, staff, and visitors.

Over time, the existing flooring—consisting of hardwood and laminate—became significantly worn, particularly in high-traffic areas such as common spaces and corridors.

The condition of the floors began affecting both the functionality and the overall environment of the facility, making replacement necessary.

Challenge
The project required replacing flooring in an active shelter environment where durability, safety, and ease of maintenance are essential.

The existing flooring materials had uneven wear patterns and required careful removal without damaging surrounding finishes. In addition, the new flooring needed to withstand intensive daily use while remaining easy to maintain for facility staff.

Solution

The project team carried out the removal and disposal of the existing laminate and hardwood flooring across approximately 3,490 sq. ft. of interior space, including bedrooms, offices, and common areas on the second and third floors (excluding file room and bathrooms).

A new glue-down vinyl flooring system was selected and installed to provide greater durability and long-term performance in a high-traffic environment.

The scope of work also included installation of transitions and trim, caulking, and touch-up painting to restore baseboard finishes and ensure a clean, cohesive final appearance.

Results
The new flooring significantly improved the durability and functionality of the shelter’s interior spaces. The updated surface is more resistant to wear, easier to maintain, and better suited to the daily demands of the facility. The project helped enhance the comfort and usability of the environment for both residents and staff while extending the lifecycle of the interior finishes.
